Avi Plans Promotions Around Kentucky Derby
Several fun promotions are going on at Avi for Derby Day which is Saturday May 5. Beginning today, April 30 and continuing through May 5, the resort will be giving out official Kentucky Derby and Coke merchandise, Avi dinner vouchers, movie tickets to the onsite Brenden Theatres, and more. Drawings for the giveaways will take place every 30 minutes at Promotions Central on Saturday, May 5 between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Drawing entries may be earned through casino play starting April 30 at 6 p.m. through 3 p.m. on May 5. Here’s a chance to win some valuable Xtra Bonus Bucks by getting creative and coming up with a stylish hat (male or female) for the properties $1,000 Derby Hat Contest. The top three designs will share the rewards. Register your hat to at Promotions Central on May 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. One restriction; hats cannot be larger than 24”X 24.” Every Monday in May, in celebration of the Kentucky Derby, the Avi will be offering “Jockey’s Home Stretch Win, Place, Show” promotion with individual prizes of up to $150 going to the winners. Weekly drawings take place at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. where six winners will be selected at each drawing. Check with the club booth for complete details.
Tropicana Celebrates Cinco de Mayo Weekend with Party and Car Show
Stay busy at the Tropicana with a weekend of Cinco de Mayo events. On the entertainment side, Malo and El Chicano bands will play The Pavilion Theater May 4-5 at 8 p.m. with tickets going for $25. On the same days, the resort will hold its “Cinco de Mayo Car Show” highlighted by a Show ‘n’ Shine event on Saturday at noon. Music will be provided by DJCholo on Friday and Saturday. There is a $25 entry per car and last minute entries will be accepted Saturday, May 5, from 9 a.m. to 1- a.m. There is no charge to wander through the north parking lot and view the cars. Win Vehicles in Riverside Resort’s “All-American Summer Ticket to Ride” Giveaway
A big car giveaway gets underway at the Riverside Resort tomorrow, May 1st and continues through June 25. Their “All-American Summer Ticket to Ride” promo will be awarding 2012 GMC Sierras; Buick Veranos; and Chevy Equinoxe models. In lieu of the cars, winners have the option of taking home $20,000 in cash. Also cash prizes of $2,500 will be given away. Drawing will be held each Monday, May 7 through June 25 at 6 p.m. in the South Tower Promotions area where three winners will be selected. The first and second individuals called will receive $2,500. The third name out of the drum wins the grand prize which is the car of their choice from the vehicles listed. Winners must be present to win. Paul Anka, REO Speedwagon and King of the Cage “Future Legends 6” Headed to The E Center
A diverse line up of talent is headed to The E Center at Edgewater in May with Paul Anka starting things off with special Mother’s Day weekend concert May 12. Tickets begin as low as $35. Coming up May 19 debuts the exciting King of the Cage “Future Legends 6” live amateur mixed martial arts competition. The 10-match fight card will be featured on King of the Cage’s weekly television series. The first bout literally kicks off at 6 p.m. Tickets are going for $25, $40, $65 and $100. Aquarius, Edgewater and Colorado Belle Showing Live Coverage of Mayweather vs. Cotto Fight
It will be fast and furious boxing action Saturday, May 5 as Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Miguel Cotto go toe-to-toe in what is being the called one of the greatest fights to come along in a long time. The actual fight is going on live from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Vegas with seats running between $200 and $1,500, but Laughlin visitors can see all the fast-paced action for free in three Laughlin resorts. The Aquarius will televise the fight via closed circuit on four huge screens. While you enjoy the round-by-round coverage you can enjoy $3 dogs and $1 chips. Down Casino Drive, the Colorado Belle will televise the free fight from Pints Brewery & Sports Bar and sister property the Edgewater will be showing the entire card on televisions throughout the casino. Boxing fans will also see the match-up between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and “Sugar” Shane Mosely. The under card matches begin at 6 p.m.
Highway Country Radio Accepting Applications for 31st Annual Texaco Country Showdown Talent Contest
Hoping to be the next star to shine in the country music world? Well, here’s your chance. Once again it’s time to start getting your application in for the 31st Annual Texaco Country Showdown which will be held at Don Laughlin’s Riverside Resort’s Starview Room on Thursday, June 28 at 6 p.m. Highway Country (KIXW/KIXF) has been selected to host the event which is “America’s Largest Country Music Talent Search” and radio promotion. Thousands of up-and-coming country artists compete with local winners advancing to more than 40 state contests where prizes include $1,000 in cash and the chance to advance to one of the five regional contests in the fall. The five regional winners (all travel expenses covered) will be on their way to Nashville Tennessee for the National Finals to vie for the title and $100,000 in cash. The contest is open to vocal and/or instrumental artists, including solo acts or groups up to seven members. Here are a few rules to follow before you apply. Acts must not have performed on a record charted in the top 100 country format on “Billboard,” “Radio and Records,” or the “Gavin Report” within 18 months of the local Showdown competition. Entry forms can be obtained at Highway Country/Barstow Station; the entertainment box office at the Riverside; the Las Vegas Highway Radio Sales Office; by calling Highway Radio at (702) 737-9899; or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Be sure to include your address! Demos including tapes, CDs, DVDs and MP3s plus a $20 entry fee will need to be sent in for the application process to begin. Highway Radio will choose 10 finalists and two alternatives to perform in Laughlin. The final day for entries at all locations is May 29, 2012, at 5 p.m. No exceptions will be made for contestants.
